Prior to her appointment as State Department spokesperson, Ortagus worked as a national security contributor for Fox News. She also serves as a reserve officer in the United States Navy.

During her tenure at the State Department, she collaborated closely with the White House on the Abraham Accords, which resulted in peace treaties between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Sudan.

She was harshly critical of Iran and China, particularly the Chinese Communist Party’s efforts to shift blame for the COVID-19 pandemic to the United States.
