Morgan Deann Ortagus (born July 10, 1982) is an American financial analyst and political advisor who served as the US Department of State’s spokesperson from 2019 to 2021.
She previously worked as a deputy Treasury attaché and intelligence analyst at the US Department of the Treasury, as well as a public affairs officer at USAID.
Prior to her appointment as State Department spokesperson, Ortagus worked as a national security contributor for Fox News. She also serves as a reserve officer in the United States Navy.
During her tenure at the State Department, she collaborated closely with the White House on the Abraham Accords, which resulted in peace treaties between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Sudan.
She was harshly critical of Iran and China, particularly the Chinese Communist Party’s efforts to shift blame for the COVID-19 pandemic to the United States.
