Mark Reuss Career
He began his career as executive director of the Performance Division in 2001. In 2005, he was promoted to executive director of Global Vehicle Integration, Safety, and Virtual Development. From 2009 to 2013, he served as president of General Motors North America.
Later, he oversaw GM’s operations in Australasia as chairman and managing director of Holden, the company’s Australasian operation, from February 1, 2008, until September 1, 2009, and he currently serves as a director on the GM Asia Pacific Strategy Board.
Reuss oversaw the Buick Rendezvous and Pontiac Aztek, two vehicles that received harsh criticism and were not successful. However, he received praise for overseeing product development during his tenure in the early 2010s.
Alan Batey succeeded Reuss as of September 1, 2009, when Reuss rejoined GM in the US as a senior product development director.
On June 3, 2018, during the second race of the 2018 Detroit Grand Prix, Reuss lost control of the Corvette ZR1 pace car he was driving and crashed it. This caused a significant delay and unfavorable publicity for both Reuss and General Motors. Mark Sandy, the passenger, and Reuss were unharmed.
He re-entered the Pace car for the 2019 Grand Prix Race 1 in heavy rain a year later and led the field without incident. At the race, he also unveiled the brand-new Cadillac V-series in full camouflage. He drove the Indianapolis 500’s honorary pace car in 2020.
