She is the Chief Foreign Affairs and Washington Correspondent for NBC News, and she covered the 2008 presidential election campaign for NBC News broadcasts such as NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, Today, and MSNBC.
She hosts Andrea Mitchell Reports on MSNBC weekdays from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. ET, has appeared on and guest hosted Meet the Press, and is a frequent guest on Hardball with Chris Matthews and The Rachel Maddow Show.

Mitchell was raised in New Rochelle, New York, in a Jewish family as the daughter of Cecile and Sydney (Rubenstein) Mitchell.
Her father was the CEO and a partial owner of a Manhattan furniture manufacturing company. For 40 years, he was also the president of Beth El Synagogue in New Rochelle.
Her mother worked as an administrator at Manhattan’s New York Institute of Technology. In the 1970s, her brother Arthur and his wife Nancy Mitchell relocated to British Columbia.
He holds dual American and Canadian citizenship and served in the Yukon Legislative Assembly as the leader of the Yukon Liberal Party in the 2000s.
Mitchell attended New Rochelle High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania in 1967.
She worked as the news director for WXPN, the student radio station at Penn. After graduation, she was hired as a reporter at KYW radio in Philadelphia.
During Mayor Frank Rizzo’s administration, she rose to prominence as the station’s City Hall correspondent, and she also reported for sister station KYW-TV.
