Good Morning America TV Show

Good Morning America (abbreviated as GMA) is an ABC morning television show that airs in the United States. It first aired on weekends on November 3, 1975, and on January 3, 1993, a Sunday edition was introduced.

The Sunday edition was discontinued in 1999, but on September 4, 2004, weekend editions on both Saturdays and Sundays were reinstated.

The weekday show airs from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in all time zones across the United States (live in the Eastern Time Zone and on broadcast delay elsewhere across the country).

The hour-long Saturday and Sunday editions are broadcast live on ABC’s stations at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time, though stations in some media markets air them at different times.

Viewers in the Pacific Time Zone get an updated feed that includes a special opening and live updates. From 2007 to 2008, a third hour of the weekday broadcast aired exclusively on ABC News Now.

News, interviews, weather forecasts, special-interest stories, and feature segments such as “Pop News” (featuring pop culture and entertainment news, as well as viral video), the “GMA Heat Index” (featuring a mix of entertainment, lifestyle, and human-interest stories), and “Play of the Day” (featuring a mix of entertainment, lifestyle, and human-interest stories) are all featured on the show (featuring a selected viral video or television program clip).

It is produced by ABC News and broadcasts from the Times Square Studios in the Times Square district of New York City.

With breaking news anchor Amy Robach, entertainment anchor Lara Spencer, and weather anchor Ginger Zee, the primary anchors are Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and former New York Giants defensive end and former Live co-host Michael Strahan.

Since summer 2012, Good Morning America has been the most-watched morning show in total viewers and key demos. From 1995 to 2012, GMA was consistently second in the ratings, trailing only NBC’s Today.

Robin Roberts Family and Education

Roberts grew up in Pass Christian, Mississippi, where she played basketball and tennis, among other sports, despite being born in Tuskegee, Alabama. She went to Pass Christian High School and graduated salutatorian of the class of 1979. Lucimarian (née Tolliver) and Colonel Lawrence E. Roberts are her parents.

Roberts credited her parents with instilling the “three ‘D’s: Discipline, Determination, and ‘De Lord,'” in a 2006 presentation to the Abilene Christian University student body. After Sally-Ann, Lawrence, Jr. (nicknamed Butch), and Dorothy, she is the youngest of four siblings. Her father served in the Tuskegee Airmen as a pilot.

Roberts earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana, in 1983. She followed in the footsteps of her older sister, Sally-Ann Roberts, a reporter for New Orleans’ CBS affiliate WWL-TV.

On the January 14, 2007, edition of Costas on the Radio, Roberts mentioned that she was offered a scholarship to play basketball at Louisiana State University, but after visiting the campus, she thought the school was too big and impersonal.

She saw a road sign for Southeastern Louisiana University on her way back to Pass Christian from that visit, stopped to visit, and decided to enroll.

The only scholarship left was for tennis, and she was promised that a journalism scholarship would be available by the time she graduated.

She went on to become a standout player for the women’s basketball team, finishing her career as the third all-time leading scorer (1,446 points) and rebounder for the school (1,034).

Roberts is one of only three Lady Lions to reach 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her career. She scored a career-high 27.6 points per game during her senior year.

On February 5, 2011, Southeastern held a ceremony to honor Roberts’ number 21 jersey, which was retired.
