Paul Mariner Bio
Paul Mariner was an English football player, coach and sports journalist. He contributed frequently to ESPN FC. He was a regular pundit on the daily soccer news, analysis, and highlights show that was only available on ESPN+. Alongside play-by-play commentator Mark Donaldson during the 2016 UEFA European Football Championship, he has also worked as a color commentator for a number of international matches on ESPN and ESPN International.
He  started his playing career with Chorley and was a center forward. He signed a professional contract with Plymouth Argyle in 1973. In 155 games, he scored 61 goals, making him one of the team’s all-time greats. In 1976, he signed with Ipswich Town, where he was coached by Bobby Robson to success both at home and abroad.
During his time at Portman Road, he received a call-up to play for the England national team. He later represented his nation in the 1980 European Championship and the 1982 World Cup. Mariner made 35 appearances for England in all, tallying 13 goals. Before concluding his career abroad, he played for Portsmouth for two years and Arsenal for another. He performed live for clubs in Malta, the US, and Australia.
