Desmond Kevin Howard is a well-known American retired football wide receiver and current sports media personality. He spent eleven seasons as a player in the National Football League. Desmond is a color commentator for Detroit Lions preseason games on the Detroit Lions Television Network in addition to working as an ESPN college football analyst. Desmond also attended Michigan to play collegiate football, where as a senior he was awarded the Heisman Trophy.

The Washington Redskins selected him fourth overall in the 1992 NFL Draft, and he played special teams for the majority of his career as a return specialist. When Desmond returned a kickoff for the longest return in Super Bowl history 99 yards and was named Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XXXI, he achieved his greatest professional success with the Green Bay Packers. He is the only player on special teams to have won the prize thus far. In 2011, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
