Along with Kirk Herbstreit of College Gameday, he was a member of ESPN’s top announcing team in 2014 when he took over as play-by-play announcer for Saturday Night Football on ABC, replacing Brent Musburger. This meant he was chosen to call one of the two College Football Playoff semifinal games as well as the College Football National Championship.
