In 1981, Cohn started working as a sports reporter, writer, and news anchor for WALK-AM/FM in Patchogue, New York. Up until 1987, she carried on working for three other New York radio stations: WGBB-AM (1984–85), WCBS NewsRadio 88 (1984–87), and WCBS-FM (1984–87). The highlight of Cohn’s radio career was when she was hired by ABC in 1987 to serve as their first full-time female sports anchor.

She worked there from 1987 to 1989. She began working as a part-time reporter and anchor for WLIG-TV on Long Island in 1985. In addition, she served as chief correspondent, news director, and anchor for the daily television news program Long Island News Tonight (1985–86). Cohn began working as a full-time reporter and weekend sports anchor at Seattle’s KIROTV in October 1989.

Since joining ESPN in 1992, Hall of Fame sportscaster Linda Cohn has anchoring duties for SportsCenter.
