She got her first job at CBS affiliate WBTW where she worked as a weekend producer. Carlson transitioned into TV in a unique way; she was her own reporter, photographer, and videographer, she also edited her own stories for daily newscasts.
Kelcey got a job at WWMT-Ch. 3 in Kalamazoo, Michigan after her time in WBTW.
At WWMT, she was tasked to cover numerous prominent stories including the 2000 Presidential Election ambivalence in West Palm Beach, FL and also the execution of Timothy McVeigh.
She was later named a weekday morning anchor after successful years in Kalamazoo where she began doing more investigative reporting, winning awards for her stories on the Sex Offender Registry.
