The earnings of the most famous TikTok stars have risen in the last year, owing in part to their efforts to expand their fame beyond the platform that first made them famous.
This is certainly true for Charli and Dixie D’Amelio, the sisters at the top of our list of the highest-earning TikTok users. They have their own Hulu series, The D’Amelio Show, and have drawn many comparisons to the Kardashian sisters.
The show debuted in September and was renewed for a second season two months later. Then, in December, Dixie performed alongside Ed Sheeran and the Jonas Brothers at the Garden and nine other venues as part of the Jingle Ball concert series.
And the sisters have a profitable brand, Social Tourist, which is a joint venture with Hollister and is sold in approximately 500 of the retailer’s stores.
All of this has contributed to their earnings increasing to a total of $27.5 million, up from less than $7 million a year ago.
Meanwhile, Addison Rae has signed a new multifilm deal with Netflix after appearing in one film, He’s All That. Josh Richards has also appeared in a Netflix film, Under the Stadium Lights, and launched his own production company, CrossCheck Studios, in collaboration with Mark Wahlberg’s production company.
The highest-paid TikTok stars earned $55.5 million in 2022, up 200 percent from the previous time we counted their paychecks, in 2021.
While they’ve shifted their focus away from TikTok, they still make a significant portion of their income—typically 30 percent to 50 percent—from sponsored content, in which a corporation pays for a post advertising their products on a star’s social media account.
Businesses such as Amazon, Louis Vuitton, and McDonald’s have purchased such ads as TikTok has grown to over a billion users worldwide.
The TikTok stars can charge up to a half-million dollars for a single post, but most earn between $100,000 and $250,000 per post, which is more than double the rates from the previous list in 2021.
TikTok users understand the audience that these advertisers want to reach because they are roughly the same age. These top earners are all under the age of 25.
Another universal truth about TikTok is that stardom and money can come and go quickly, as three newcomers to this list, Bella Poarch, Avani Gregg, and Kris Collins, have demonstrated.
