With almost three decades of coaching experience under his belt, he has held 13 head coaching positions. He led Mississippi State for nine years and then spent eight years at the University of Florida in a combined role. From 2018 to 21, he was back in Gainesville as head coach after serving as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach there.

Before taking a full-time position as an analyst, he worked as a guest analyst for ESPN and SEC Network for a few years. He covered the SEC Championship Game the previous year and the last two College Football Playoff National Championships.
