On April 9, 1965, Zucker was born into a Jewish family in Homestead, Florida, near Miami. Matthew, his father, was a cardiologist, and Arline, his mother, was a schoolteacher.
He was the captain of the North Miami Senior High School tennis team, the editor of the school newspaper, and a teen freelance reporter for The Miami Herald (known as a “stringer”).
Zucker ran for president of his sophomore, junior, and senior classes with the slogan “The little man with big ideas.” In 1982, he received his diploma from North Miami Senior High School. Prior to college, he participated in the National High School Institute for Journalism at Northwestern University.
Zucker continued his education at Harvard University. During his senior year, he served as president of The Harvard Crimson, the school newspaper.
