From 1989 to 2004, he was a midfield player for Chelsea, Derby County and Celtic in the Scottish Premier League. He also played in the Premier League for Chelsea and Derby County.

Burley works as a studio analyst for ESPN FC, the network’s daily soccer studio program. He played football professionally and was a former Scottish international. He’ll have the same analyst role during ESPN’s coverage of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil in 2014.

He has been a midfield player and started with the Scotland U-21 National Team in 1992 before moving up to the senior squad. Between 1995 and 2003, he made 46 appearances for the Scottish National Team, scoring three goals, including the game-winning goal against Norway in Scotland’s second of three 1998 World Cup matches in France.
