ESPN currently covers all three Majors, the Australian Open , Wimbledon and the US Open , from start to finish. He became a studio analyst, match analyst, and sideline reporter for ESPN in 2004. He returned to coaching Scotland’s rising star Andy Murray in 2006 after leaving, and he rejoined ESPN in 2008.
Gilbert, a native of California, competed professionally from 1982 to 1995, winning 20 titles and qualifying for 20 other tournament finals. During his time at Pepperdine, he was an All American and qualified for the 1982 NCAA singles final. He finished with a record of 519-288 overall.
He placed in the top 20 six times out of seven years from 1985 to 1991, including two years in a row in the top 10 (1989–#6, 1990–#10), and he reached as high as #4 (during the 1990 season). His 1987 US Open quarterfinal and 1990 Wimbledon semifinal appearances were his best Grand Slam results.
