Spencer William Morgan Father, Piers Morgan
Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan is a British broadcaster, journalist, writer, and TV personality. He was born on March 30, 1965.
In 1988, he got his start on Fleet Street at The Sun. Rupert Murdoch gave him the job of editor of the News of the World in 1994, when he was 29 years old.
This made him the youngest editor of a major British newspaper in more than 50 years. Morgan ran the Daily Mirror from 1995 until 2004, when he was fired. From 2006 to 2007, he was in charge of the news at First News.
As a TV host, Morgan has been in charge of the talk shows Life Stories on ITV from 2009 to 2021 and Piers Morgan Live on CNN from 2011 to 2014. Morgan also co-hosted ITV’s Good Morning Britain with Susanna Reid from 2015 to 2021. From 2006 to 2011, he was a judge on both America’s Got Talent and Britain’s Got Talent (2007–2010).
In 2008, he won The Celebrity Apprentice US, where he competed with Donald Trump, who would later become president of the US.
Morgan was hired by News Corp in September 2021 to be a host on their new TV channel TalkTV and a columnist for The Sun and New York Post. Piers Morgan Uncensored, the new show, began on April 25, 2022.
During the time that the Daily Mirror was involved in the phone hacking scandal, Morgan was the paper’s editor.
In 2011, Morgan said that he had never hacked into a phone and that, as far as he knew, he had never published a story that came from hacking a phone.
The next year, he was criticized by the chair of the Leveson Inquiry, Brian Leveson. He said that Morgan’s testimony about phone hacking was “utterly unpersuasive” and that “he was aware that it was happening in the press as a whole and that he wasn’t embarrassed enough by what was criminal behavior that he was willing to joke about it.” Morgan’s strong opinions and controversial remarks on Good Morning Britain caused Ofcom to step in more than once.
Morgan left the show right away on March 9, 2021, after he said negative things about the interview Oprah did with Meghan and Harry.
Ofcom got more than 57,000 complaints from viewers, including one from Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Morgan was later found not to have done anything wrong by Ofcom.
