Raúl Enrique Allegre Rodríguez is a Mexican former professional football and an NFL ESPN Commentator. He played as a licker for the New York Giants, Baltimore/Indy Colts, and New York Jets in the National Football League (NFL). He participated in college football at Texas and Montana before being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys following the 1983 NFL Draft. In an NFL game, he is the first kicker to ever make a field goal of at least 60 yards.

When Allegre was an exchange student at Shelton High School in 1977, he started playing football. Prior to his senior year at Shelton, he played soccer instead of American football. One day prior to the start of the season, head coach Jack Stark requested that he practice kicking footballs. Despite his long range, all of his shots missed the crossbar. In 1986 and 1987, Raul Allegre was twice selected for the Pro Bowl. He was also selected for the NFL’s 1980s All-Decade Team.

Allegre attended Shelton High School in Washington as an exchange student and was chosen for the football team.
At the University of Montana, Allegre had been given a football scholarship that was only partially funded.
He transferred to The University of Texas in Austin to seek a degree in civil engineering after spending two years studying there. He earned his degree with honors in May 1984. In 1996, he graduated from UT with an MBA.

Ral Allegre, a nine-year NFL veteran and two-time Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants (1986 and 1990), began working for ESPN Deportes in 2002 as a commentator for Sunday Night Football on ESPN International. Allegre has been a Monday Night Football analyst on ESPN Deportes and ESPN International since the fall of 2006, where he collaborates with play-by-play announcer lvaro Martn and sideline reporter John Sutcliffe.

Additionally, he co-hosts the weekly NFL studio program NFL Semanal and writes columns for Latin American ESPNDeportes.com and ESPN.com. Allegre played for the Baltimore Colts, Indianapolis Colts, New York Giants, and New York Jets during his NFL career.

Allegre, a Torreón, Mexico native, was a football scholarship student at the University of Montana before moving to the University of Texas. He started his NFL kicking career in 1983 with the Baltimore Colts, and then played for the New York Giants, where he won two Super Bowls.

After leaving the NFL in 1993, Allegre was hired by NFL Films to serve as executive producer, creator, and host of Super Show Deportivo, a 30-minute Spanish-language NFL show. He then served as a radio analyst for Texas Longhorns Football for a few years until taking the helm as executive producer of the Dallas Cowboys’ Spanish-language preseason television broadcasts in 1996, a position he held until 2004.

Allegre has prioritized community involvement throughout his career. He currently leads the local effort for the nationwide “Caring for Kids” charity initiative as president of the NFL Alumni in Austin.
