Linda Ronstadt is an American singer best known for her work in rock, country, light opera, the Great American Songbook, and Latin. Eleven Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music Awards, an Emmy Award, and an ALMA Award have been bestowed upon her.
In 2014, she was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Linda Ronstadt began performing in Tucson small venues in the 1960s as part of a folk trio with her siblings Peter and Gretchen. She later relocated to Los Angeles, where she co-founded Stone Poneys with Bobby Kimmel and Kenny Edwards.
Before Ronstadt went solo and released her 1969 album Hand Sown… Home Grown, the trio was signed to Capitol Records. It is said to be the first alternative record by a female artist.
