Childers was there to document every step forward and the long journey ahead, from the devastating effects of the Flint Water Crisis as well as the state’s takeover of the Detroit public school system to the ground-breaking investment in driverless technology as well as a new wave of enthusiasm for small business owners.
Before coming to Detroit, Childers spent several years covering the tense situation in the Rio Grande Valley along the Texas-Mexico border. Childers covered everything from civilian militias and human smuggling to kidnappings, and drug trafficking, as well as the 2014 humanitarian crisis for KRGV as a reporter, anchor, and bureau chief.
Childers began her career covering the highs and lows of Texas’ oil sector in Midland-Odessa.
