Pictures shown are of actress Rita Lee, not Jenny Arness
Hi, noted with thanks! working on replacing or recaptioning them.
Agreed it isn’t his daughter but it is actress Ruta Lee
His daughter was brunette and passed at 25.
Such a tragic loss at such a young age.
1968-69 lived in Hawaii finishing out my dads military career in the Air Force. While living there my dad became friends with the guys who kept an eye on James Arness’s vacation home when he wasn’t there. Before we came back to mainland we got too go meet the tallest man I had ever seen. Spent the afternoon at his house and James kept trying too get me too eat some prunes on the bar while I was sitting next to him. When the phone rang, James answered it and it was Jenny. He didn’t feel like talking to her so he put me on the phone with her. I have no idea what we talked about but mom and dad said it was close to 30 minutes. I was 5 years old and she must have been a sweetheart too keep my attention that long on the phone. When I did some googling a few years ago, I learned of her overdose. Read that she died after watching Greg Allmann and Cher announce their marriage on Dinah Shore. This shocked the world because nobody had a clue they were even a couple. If Jenny had only known this marriage lasted only 3 weeks, I think. Maybe she could have still been alive today. I sure wish I knew what Jenny and I talked about that afternoon in 1969. RIP Jenny
Thanks for sharing your experience David. Just like you said; RIP Jenny and James Arness.
Greg and Cher were actually married 3 years, they almost divorced after a few weeks but decided to give it another try. How cool to have met the legend Mr. Arness! And what a complete tragedy for her to die so young.
I grew up watching gunsmoke as a little boy my grandma and me couldn’t wait until the show came on. I remember jenny passing and Matt Dillon. I miss those days more than words can say. Best times of my life, it’s ashame kids of today don’t get the same experience as I did back then today’s world is insane
I noticed that Jenny Lee Aurness, was listed as a credit for the 1964 “Gunsmoke” episode titled “Aunt Thede” in the role of Laurie. However, having watched the episode, I did not see her appearance.
