From 1991 to 1992, he was an adjunct professor at St. Joseph’s University School of Criminal Justice, from 1992 to 1996 at Temple University Beasley School of Law, and from 1993 to the present at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
From 1998 through 2008, he worked at The National Judicial College as a curriculum writer and lecturer. From 1987 to 2008, he was a judge on the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas’ First Judicial District, serving as President judge from 2006 to 2008.
President George W. Bush nominated Jones to a seat on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, which had been vacated by Bruce William Kauffman, on July 24, 2008.
On September 26, 2008, the United States Senate approved Jones, and on October 30, 2008, he received his commission. On March 15, 2021, he was promoted to senior status.
